“undertake”, “put forth ones strength”, “take on”, “accept the challenge”, “contend with”, ”pull together”, ”give it a whirl”, it means that to achieve something YOU have to work at it.

Well, what is the “FIVE”? Five is the amount of dollars we want to have in our investment accounts when this initiative is finished.

The new initiative of the Kiwanis Foundation
of New England.
years from this fundraising initiative alone.
The second method of raising funds to achieve our STRIVE for FIVE goal is to continue the “Kiwanis 10K Kids Family Walk.” Our first Walk brought in $15,000 which was evenly split between our Kiwanis Foundation of New England and Kiwanis International Foundation.
S T R I V E   for   F I V E is the new initiative of the Kiwanis Foundation of New England.

Let’s start with the word STRIVE — according to “Rogets Thesarus” it means to “attempt”, “exert ones self”,
easy way to raise funds without asking our members to make a monetary contribution, except for the food they buy . How could it be any easier? Get your Family to collect and save the receipts from either “Shaw’s” or “Star” Markets, and follow the rules. In addition to your Family — ask your club to participate — make it a challenge between club members and your “Sponsored Youth” programs. Come up with “novel” ways to collect the receipts — at the store, out of empty shopping baskets, put up signs at the stores, have members at the stores to request the receipts from customers as they are leaving, use your Kiwanis Imagination — make it fun!

It has been estimated that Our Foundation, with a lot of work from our members, could raise anywhere from $269,000 to $685,000, and that is if we work hard for only one year. In two years we could raise between $538,000 and $1,370,000. Our Strive for Five goal is to raise our investments from $3,500,000 to $5,000,000 – with maximum effort from OUR members and our Sponsored Youth programs we can come within $130,000 of reaching that goal in two
There are many ways to achieve this goal — we have started with the “Shaw’s Register Receipt Program”, an
New England.

Governor John has proposed some changes to last years Walk — the biggest being to allow any club, Division or State to organize and run their own walk.” Jump on the bandwagon” — let’s make this walk, or many walks successful. Only YOU can make it happen. Contact Governor John — make it happen!
The third initiative is OUR Kiwanis Foundation of New England Golf Tournament, to be held during the 2008-2009 year. It’s going to happen at a golf course in Massachusetts, during the Spring of 2009. We are currently in negotiations with a course, but don’t have all the specifics available at this time — BUT it is going to happen!!

YOU may be wondering how all this is going to happen --- It will happen because you want it to happen. Five years ago we were saying “Together, WE can do it”. Today we are saying “Together, WE will achieve STRIVE for FIVE” .

Governor, soon to be Past Governor, John will be leading the charge for this event. We must make this an annual event — we have to build on our beginning of last year — who knows where this will take us in the form of increased revenue for the Kiwanis Foundation of
